Bees end season in Heart Tournament Semifinal

Bees end season in Heart Tournament Semifinal

The Statesmen were a familiar face to St. Ambrose as they played each other less than a month prior. They met again but this time in the 2024 Heart Tournament Semifinal match up. SAU was looking for revenge and an upset as they were the no. 3 seed heading into the conference tournament. William Penn was ranked no. 2 in the conference tournament, just behind Benedictine who earned the no. 1 seed. The Bees could not gather enough momentum for an upset this time around as St. Ambrose was defeated 26-5.

The first ten minutes of the first period of play seemed promising for the Bees. William Penn scored the first two goals of the game at the 13:10 mark and 11:01 mark in the first. However, the Bees would surge back and score two back to back goals. The first goal came from Ayden Fraelle at the 9:21 mark. A little over two minutes later, Isaiah Hahn would find the back of the net for SAU. Hahn's goal would tie things up at two all. The Statesmen would score two more in the first period to lead 4-2.

During the second period of play, SAU went cold and did not score another goal until after halftime. This allowed William Penn to extend their lead by eight. St. Ambrose headed into halftime down 12-2.

Another goal for the Bees did not come until Makaile Shaddix scored at the 8:05 mark in the third. SAU could not keep pace with WPU as they trailed 3-20. The Bees kept pushing to find their way back into the match but ultimately could not make much headway. At the end of the third, SAU found themselves in a 3-23 hole.

Dawson Dickerson and Alex Tomaszewski each scored for St. Ambrose but that still was not enough to defeat the Statesmen. The Statesmen took the eventual final 26-5.

Five different Bees scored in the match. Goals were scored from Dawson Dickerson, Makaile Shaddix, Ayden Fraelle, Alex Tomaszewski, and Isaiah Hahn. Hahn and Slade Dias collected one assist each.

Eli Hahn, Trent Knight and Jack Wiltrout each secured three ground balls.

Joe Campbell led defensively for the Bees with three caused turnovers.

Both Lachlan Hodge and Isaac Martinez played in goal for the Bees. Hodge secured eight saves while Martinez collected four.

St. Ambrose concludes their season with a 9-7 overall record and a 3-2 conference record.
