Exciting overtime win for the Bees over Augustana on senior night

St. Ambrose recognized ten seniors before their overtime win vs. Augustana College on Thursday night at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. This would be the rival game of the year for St. Ambrose men's lacrosse and a meaningful one at that. Before the match SAU now (8-6, 2-2) overall, recognized nine athletes and one coach/manager. The athletes recognized were Joe Campbell, Matt Cortopassi, Matt David, Isaiah Hahn, Trent Knight, Makaile Shaddix, Alex Tomaszewski, Sam Vita, and Tyler Yetka. Lastly, the men's lacrosse program recognized coach/manager Joey Wyslak.

Isaiah Hahn shined on his senior night scoring the first goal and final overtime winner to cap off his monstrous career. Makaile Shaddix scored next for the Bees to give them a 2-0 in the first before Augustana would get on the board. Shaddix would score again and Ayden Fraelle found the back of the net on a man up opportunity to give the Bees a 4-1. Eventually, Augustana would score another to end the quarter at 4-2.

The second period was at a stale mate as both teams scored four times. SAU would notch the first two goals at the 13:47 and 13:19 mark respectively. Then, the Vikings would score four unanswered goals to take their first lead of the match at 7-6. Seniors, Matt Cortopassi and Isaiah Hahn were all too familiar with this experience and netted two consecutive goals before the halftime break for the Bees. These goals would give St. Ambrose an 8-7 lead going into halftime.

SAU had a slow start to the third as the Vikings scored three goals going late into the period. This would leave the Bees down 8-10 before they surged back. A goal from Joey Curzon started the Bees momentum. On went Alex Tomaszewski and Isaiah Hahn to score within a minute of each other to take the lead headed into the final quarter.

The Vikings tied the game up at the 11:01 mark before a stellar goal from the Bees. The Bees were serving a penalty and had a difficult time clearing the ball from their half as Augustana applied pressure to try and force a turnover. Dominic Della Vedova played a long pass from the Bees defensive end to relieve some of the pressure and get the ball down the field so the Bees could regroup. That ball went over a Viking defender and into the stick of Zach Priami who found himself one-on-one with the goalie. Priami found the back of the net to help SAU regain the lead. Another Bee goal was scored at the 7:30 mark. This would give the 13-11 lead to the Bees but that was not enough as the Vikings wormed their way back into the game. Augustana scored twice more to tie the game at 13 all. These two goals would force an overtime, sudden death period.

The Bees and Vikings played scoreless for three minutes and 52 seconds until Isaiah Hahn would use a solo effort to become the hero in overtime. Hahn scored with eight seconds remaining on the clock as the Bees would win 14-13.

Shaddix and Hahn would be the top scorers for the Bees as they had four each. Cortopassi would follow with two. Priami, Curzon, Fraelle, and Tomaszewski would all notch one goal apiece. Fraelle would earn two assists on the evening. Priami, Eli Hahn, Ian Ban, Shaddix, Della Vedova, and Isaiah Hahn would gather one assist each for the Bees.

Joe Campbell and Isaiah Hahn tied with a high of nine ground balls. Dawson Dickerson would follow with five while jack Wiltrout would earn four.

Defensively, Dawson Dickerson led the Bees with three caused turnovers. Eli Hahn, Matt Cortopassi, Joe Campbell, and Trent Knight collected three.

Both Isaac Martinez and Lachlan Hodge played in goal for the Bees. Hodge stepped in while Martinez served a cross-check penalty. Martinez finished with 20 saves.

SAU took advantage of their man up opportunities as they went 4-6 on total opportunities.

As St. Ambrose nears the end of their season, they travel to Clarke University tomorrow, April 20 for a matchup with the Pride. This will be their last conference game of the season. Faceoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
