SAU drops decision to the Ravens

St. Ambrose becomes (7-5, 2-2) overall after a 19-7 loss to Benedictine College on Friday evening in Atchison, Kan. This was a big conference game as it would likely determine which team would host or travel for the postseason tournament.

The Ravens would score three straight to open up the game. Then, two goals from Zach Priami and one from Ayden Fraelle locked the Bees and Ravens in a tie 3-3 game at the end of the first. This was a promising sign for the Bees heading into the next three periods.

However, the Ravens would extend their lead as they scored eight goals before halftime. The Bees only scored one and could not keep pace with Benedictine. That goal came from Zach Priami, as this was his third of the game.

Just after halftime, Matt Cortopassi tallied a goal which gave SAU momentum in the third by scoring another goal coming from Eli Hahn at the 8:20 mark. The Ravens would shut down all hopes of a comeback win at the end of the third. The Ravens added on three more goals to enlarge their lead to 15-6 entering the last 15 minutes of play.

Zach Priami scored once more to allow St. Ambrose to hang around for a little longer before Benedictine scored the sinker four seconds later. The final decision 19-7 with Benedictine staying undefeated in conference play.

Priami gathered four goals for the Bees while Eli Hahn, Matt Cortopassi, and Ayden Fraelle scored one. Eli Hahn, Ian Ban, Makaile Shaddix, and Ayden Fraelle each recorded one assist.

Dawson Dickerson gathered a team high four ground balls.

Lachlan Hodge and Isaac Martinez split almost identical minutes in goal for SAU. Hodge played 30:45 minutes and earned seven saves. Martinez played 29:15 minutes and gathered eight saves.

St. Ambrose continues their road stent and plays Ottawa on Sun, Apr. 14. Faceoff is set for 1 p.m.
