Crusaders second quarter run defeats SAU

Crusaders second quarter run defeats SAU

As the Bees continued their spring break trip in Michigan, they played (RV) Madonna. It was a game of momentum and runs. The Crusaders had a few more runs than the Bees could muster up ultimately defeating them 8-13. This loss drops St. Ambrose to (4-3, 1-0) overall.

Most St. Ambrose fans are used to seeing Lachlan Hodge between the pipes for the Bees but today #3 played a different role. Lachlan Hodge served as a goal scorer for SAU.

Hodge started off the scoring in the first with a goal at the 6:01 mark to tie the game at one apiece. To end the first, the Bees and Crusaders were even at two apiece with another goal from Makaile Shaddix, assist Lachlan Hodge.

The Crusaders went on a dominant run in the second, scoring five unanswered goals until the Bees answered back at the 4:07 mark with a goal by Isaiah Hahn. Just before halftime, St. Ambrose would then score three goals to close in on Madonna's lead. At the half, the Bees trailed 5-8.

Madonna scored three more goals just after halftime. SAU could never get their offense going by only scoring one goal in the third period. That goal by Isaiah Hahn came with 1:03 left in the period to make the Crusader's lead still extended.

In the forth quarter, Madonna and St. Ambrose exchanged two goals each. The final decision stood at 8-13 with the Crusaders taking the win.

Three Bees, Lachlan Hodge, Makaile Shaddix, and Isaiah Hahn scored two goals each. Matt Cortopassi and Alex Tomaszewski chipped in one each. Hodge had a team high two assists with Zach Priami and Matt Cortopassi gathering one each. Joe Campbell and Isaac Martinez tied for a team high four ground balls. Eli Hahn led the defense with three caused turnovers. Zach Priami, EJ Loggins, Dawson Dickerson, and Adam Kraft added two apiece.

Isaac Martinez started and played all 60 minutes in goal. He collected nine saves on the afternoon.

To continue the Bees spring break trip, they will play Michigan-Dearborn on Mar. 21. Faceoff is slated at 6 p.m. CDT. After, SAU will return home to host conference foe Mount Vernon Nazarene (OH). The game will be played at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa. This will be a 5 p.m. start time.
