Bees roll past first conference opponent of the year

St. Ambrose hosted the Vikings of Missouri Valley for their first conference match up of the year, edging the Vikings 23-1. The Bees scored 23 goals, a season high for the team in their first conference win. Makaile Shaddix (assist Ayden Fraelle) started the scoring for the Bees early in the period with SAU leading 7-0 at the end of the first period. Before halftime, St. Ambrose tacked on five more goals, gaining a 12-0 lead going into halftime. The second half proved to be a similar story with six different SAU players scoring in the second half. The final score, 23-1 St. Ambrose.

Makaile Shaddix led the scoring with six goals and one assist. Freshman, Zach Priami followed suit with five goals and three assists. Matt Cortopassi and Isaiah Hahn each chipped in three goals with Eli Hahn and Ayden Fraelle having two goals to their names. Cortopassi had a team high five assists on the evening.

SAU picked up a team total of 50 ground balls starting with a Joe Campbell effort. Joe Campbell, earned 14 ground balls while winning 20-25 face off attempts. Eli Hahn and Joey Curzon followed with six. Dawson Dickerson earned five.

On the defensive side of the ball, Eli Hahn had three caused turnovers, a team high for the game. Three other Bees each earned two, Trent Knight, Aidan Fergus, and Makaile Shaddix.

Isaac Martinez played all 60 minutes between the pipes, having three saves on four shots.   

The Bees will travel to Michigan to start a week-long spring break stint. St. Ambrose is slated to play Siena Heights Sun. Mar 17 at 12 p.m. CST. Siena Heights is receiving votes for the top 25. The following Tues., SAU will play at Madonna. Faceoff is slated for 2 p.m. CST. Madonna is receiving votes to be entered into the top 25.
