Saints edge Bees in nationally ranked match up

Two nationally ranked teams in SAU and Aquinas (MI) proved to hold their own Saturday afternoon. The weather was just as good as the competition on the field with both teams traveling well. St. Ambrose fell just short after leading most of the game. The Bees dropped a 12-13 decision to Aquinas College. Aquinas started the scoring in the first period but St. Ambrose answered back by scoring two goals before ending period one with a lead 4-3. The second quarter proved to be the same story with both teams going into halftime with seven goals a piece. Goals were exchanged back and forth in the third quarter to keep the game tied at 10-10. Aquinas scored back to back goals early in the period to give them the lead they would need for the remainder of the game. St. Ambrose had a few opportunities but in the end, couldn't find a goal to tie the game.

Zach Priami led the Bees with four goals on the afternoon. Makaile Shaddix with three and Tyler Yetka with two. While Matt Cortopassi, Ayden Fraelle, and Isaiah Hahn had each one for the Bees. Cortopassi found the goal scorers picking up four assists. Eli Hahn, Makaile Shaddix, and Isaiah Hahn had one assist each. Lachlan Hodge and Eli Hahn had a team high four ground balls. Joe Campbell, Aidan Fergus, and Adam Kraft each had three pickups.

Lachlan Hodge played all 60 minutes in the cage, earning 15 saves.

The Bees look to bounce back when they host conference foe Missouri Valley Mar. 13. Faceoff is set for 4 p.m. at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.
