SAU clinches first win of the season

Bees start the season with a win over Taylor University on a cold and windy Saturday afternoon. St. Ambrose dominated the first quarter, taking a 5-0 lead before the Trojans even netted their first goal of the evening. The Bees took their foot off the gas allowing three goals by the Trojans to close out the first quarter. Before the end of the second period, St. Ambrose and Taylor would trade goals, still giving SAU a 6-4 lead going into halftime. Taylor University started the second half with some momentum by scoring two goals to tie the game at 6-6 with 5:15 left in the third period. St. Ambrose answered less than a minute later with a goal by Makaile Shaddix. The Bees ended the third period with another goal by Zach Priami. Entering the final period, the Bees had the lead 9-6. In the final period, both teams traded goals to end the game 10-7. 

Zach Priami led the way for the Bees with a team high four goals as well as chipping in one assist. Tyler Yetka scored three goals on the evening. Makaile Shaddix scored two goals with three shots on goal. Matt Cortopassi chipped in one goal and two assists. Jack Wiltrout led St. Ambrose with eight ground balls on 12-21 faceoff opportunities. Eli Hahn, Ian Ban, and Joey Curzon picked up three ground balls. 

Lachlan Hodge was in net for all 60 minutes of action with nine total saves on 16 shots. 

St. Ambrose will hit the road to Missouri for two matches at Columbia College and Missouri Baptist this upcoming week. Faceoff at Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri is set for Feb. 20 at 5:00 p.m. Then, the Bees travel to St. Louis, Missouri for a matchup with Missouri Baptist University on Feb. 22. The match is set to start at 3:30 pm.
