Bees take down Vikings in conference clash

St. Ambrose outshot Missouri Valley 53-27 on their way to a 14-7 conference victory Saturday night in Marshall, Mo.

The Bees were off and running early, gaining a 3-0 advantage on two scores from Michael Keating and one from Matt Cortopassi. The Vikings would follow with two scores to make it a one-score game with 2:43 left in the quarter. But SAU closed out the period on a three-goal run with Isaiah Hahn, Ian Ban, and Hahn again finding the back of the net to take a 6-2 lead into the second.

St. Ambrose was outscored 2-1 in the second period, with Patrick Flynn netting the goal for the Bees to have a 7-4 halftime lead.

A Makaile Shaddix goal started the third, but three straight goals from Missouri Valley followed to make it an 8-7 score with 8:35 left in the quarter. Michael Shakerin gave the Bees a two-goal lead with 7:10 on the clock, and scores from Cole Danner, Keating, and Tyler Yetka followed to give SAU a 12-7 lead heading into the fourth.

Yetka and Danner scored for St. Ambrose in the final quarter to account for the 14-4 final.

Keating had three goals and two assists, while Shakerin dished out five assists to go with his score. Danner (three), Cortopassi (one), Shaddix (one), and Flynn (one) also recorded assists.

Jack Wiltrout won 16 faceoffs while collecting a game-high 11 ground balls. Hahn, Dawson Dickerson, and Lachlan Hodge collected three. Defensively, Adam Kraft caused a game-high four turnovers, and Nolan Hayes recorded nine saves.

St. Ambrose will finish the regular season at home on Saturday, April 22nd, taking on Benedictine at noon.
