Bees dominate in win over Warriors

St. Ambrose scored at least four goals in each quarter en route to a dominating 18-9 victory over Midland Saturday afternoon in Davenport.

The Bees (4-4) dominated from the get-go - netting four straight goals to start the game. Midland (0-5) scored late in the quarter to make it 4-1 heading to the second.

Tyler Yetka and Lachlan Hodge scored for SAU to start the second, giving St. Ambrose a 6-1 lead with 11:13 until halftime. The Warriors went on the three-goal run in the quarter to make it a two-score game with 6:14 to go. The Bees came back with a score from Isaiah Hahn, and Matt Cortopassi beat the halftime buzzer to take an 8-4 lead at the break.

SAU started the third with goals from Joey Curzon and Yetka to push the lead to six with 13:11 left in the quarter. The Warriors came back with two goals of their own to make it 10-6 with 7:00 on the clock. Cole Danner notched the final two goals of the quarter, giving St. Ambrose a 12-6 lead heading into the final frame.

The Bees exploded offensively in the fourth - scoring six goals on 16 shots while limiting Midland to three goals in the quarter on seven shots to take the 18-9 victory.

Danner scored five goals to lead the way for St. Ambrose, with Makaile Shaddix close behind with four goals and two assists. Yetka had three and Cortopassi netted two. Jacob Blair, Curzon, Hahn, and Hodge were the other goal-scorers for SAU. Michael Shakerin had a game-high three assists. Jack Wiltrout won 18 faceoffs while collecting a game-high 11 ground balls. Joe Campbell picked up five, and Sam Vita also won a faceoff. Nolan Hayes made nine saves in net, while Isaac Martinez picked up three.

SAU's next game won't be until Friday, March 24th when they take on Columbia (Mo.) at home.
