SAU defeats Midland, remains unbeaten in the KCAC

St. Ambrose used an 8-0 run spanning the second and third quarters to come away with a 13-3 win over Midland University Sunday afternoon in Fremont, Nebraska. With the win, SAU remains perfect in KCAC play. 

The Bees got on the board just 10 seconds into the match, with Hayden Latham finding the back of the net. A goal from Michael Keating off an assist from Cole Danner gave St. Ambrose a 2-0 lead with 11:02 left in the first frame. Midland got a score with 4:20 to go in the period, but Keating and Danner teamed up again to give SAU a 3-1 lead heading into the second quarter. 

St. Ambrose found their groove in the second frame - scoring five goals and allowing just seven shots by the Warriors. The Bees got scores from Dawson DickersonMatt Cortopassi (from Makaile Shaddix), Sam Kerr, Keating (from Isaiah Hahn), and Christian Dimaano (from Keating) to take an 8-1 halftime lead.

SAU continued the scoring run after the break with Danner, Michael Shakerin, and Kerr each finding the back of the net in the span of a minute. The Bee defense dominated in the quarter, allowing just two total shots by the home team. 

With an 11-1 lead heading into the final quarter, Midland broke the SAU scoring run with a goal from Andrew VanBoskirk with 11:33 left to play. Kerr pushed the lead back to ten off an assist from Keating with 8:21 to go. The Warriors would find the net once more, but Alex Tomaszewski (from Hahn) scored with :12 seconds left for the 13-3 final. 

Nolan Hayes made three saves in the first three quarters, and Lachlan Hodges made five in the final frame. Kerr and Keating both netted a hat trick for St. Ambrose, and Danner, Hahn, and Keating each put up two assists. Latham and Hunter Northway tied for a game-high six ground balls, and Northway went 8-16 on faceoffs. 

The Bees will wrap up the regular season on April 12th at Clarke at 7 p.m.
