Bees win by double digits against Ottawa

St. Ambrose won their ninth-straight game on Saturday night in Kansas. The Bees defeated the Ottawa Braves 17-7 to earn another conference victory. SAU is now 9-0 on the year and 5-0 in the KCAC. Ottawa is now 4-3 overall and 4-1 in the conference. 

The game was close until St. Ambrose broke things open in the second quarter. Leading by one after the first period, the Bees scored four-straight goals to take a 9-4 lead. Cole Danner made it 6-4 just seconds into the quarter. Michael Shakerin netted a man-up goal to give SAU a three-goal lead. Three minutes after Shakerin's score, Sam Kerr scored a man-down goal to make it 8-4 with 8:03 left until halftime. Shakerin scored another with 4:27 to go for a five-goal lead. Ottawa made it 9-5 with only 12 seconds remaining, but Michael Keating found the back of the net as the halftime buzzer sounded to give SAU a 10-5 lead at the break. 

Ottawa would make it a three-score game coming out of halftime, getting goals from Dakota Lepker and Joey Ceto to make it 10-7 with 12:01 left in the third quarter. The Bees would answer with goals from Danner and Shakerin to take a 12-7 lead into the final frame. 

SAU's offense and defense were dominant in the fourth quarter. St. Ambrose outscored Ottawa 5-0 in the quarter and allowed just two shots in the frame. Christian Dimaano would get on the scoresheet for the Bees to start the fourth. Keating scored his third of the day and a goal from Kerr followed to make it 15-7 with 6:44 left in the game. Jacob Blair scored the final two goals for St. Ambrose, including a crafty behind-the-back goal off a feed from Danner to give SAU the 17-7 win. 

Ottawa took an early 1-0 lead less than a minute into the game, but the Bees rattled off five-straight goals from Danner, Isaiah Hahn, Shakerin, Keating, and Hayden Latham to make it 5-1 with 5:18 left in the first. The Braves would battle back though, scoring three-straight goals including one with 12 seconds left in the quarter to make it a one-score game heading into the second. 

Shakerin finished with a game-high four goals, while Danner and Keating netted hat tricks for the Bees. Danner, Hahn, Keating, and Makalie Shaddix had one assist each for St. Ambrose. Nolan Hayes had a game-high 13 saves, and Joe CampbellDylan Witt, and Danner caused two turnovers each for SAU. Hunter Northway went 12-23 on faceoffs, and Jack Wiltrout won one. 

St. Ambrose will be back at home for another conference contest on Friday, April 1st against Missouri Valley.
