Bees smother Spartans in conference win

St. Ambrose scored eight goals in each half Saturday at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex to get a 16-4 conference victory over Missouri Baptist. The Bees are now 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the KCAC. The Spartans drop to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference. 

Michael Shakerin got the scoring started for SAU just over a minute into the game. St. Ambrose would not get on the board again until 5:45 remaining in the quarter when Shakerin found Sam Kerr for the score. Isaiah Hahn would team up with Cole Danner for the next Bee score to make in 3-0 heading into the second period. 

The home team would go on a five-goal run in the quarter - getting scores from Shakerin, Kerr (from Michael Keating), Christian DimaanoMakaile Shaddix (from Hahn), and Shakerin again (from Kerr) - to make it 8-0 with three minutes until halftime. Missouri Baptist got on the scoreboard with a man-up goal from Jaxon Haas for the 8-1 halftime score. 

The Bees would follow the same formula in the second half as they did in the first. Shakerin scored the first goal in the third quarter followed by a goal from Ben Blankenship. Missouri Baptist scored with 10:24 to make it 10-2 in the third quarter. Hahn found the back of the next to push the SAU lead to nine goals, but the visitors scored late in the frame to make it 11-3 heading into the fourth. 

SAU went on a 3-0 run to start the final frame, with Kerr getting a hat trick at 14:06. Goals by Hahn (from Shakerin) and Shaddix (from Matt Cortopassi) extended the St. Ambrose lead to 14-3 with 9:45 to go. Missouri Baptist scored another man-up goal, but Jacob Blair (from Hahn) and Cameron Daugherty-Giampaolo found the back of the net for the Bees to close out the game. 

Nolan Hayes made three saves in the first half. Johnny Moran and Isaac Martinez split time in the second half and both had one save. Hunter Northway went 14-18 on faceoffs and Jack Wiltrout went 4-6. The Bees caused eight turnovers with Gavin Flynn causing three and Dylan Witt causing two. 

St. Ambrose will be home again on Monday, taking on No. 6 Aquinas College at noon.
