SAU gets ranked win over No. 9 Concordia (Mich.)

St. Ambrose used a three-goal third quarter and shut out Concordia in the period to win another ranked matchup. The Bees (0-4) took down the Cardinals (0-4), 10-5, Wednesday afternoon at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport. 

The game was close until SAU broke things open in the third. After a goal from Concordia with no time left in the first half to make it 4-3 St. Ambrose, the Bees went on a run in the next frame. Michael Shakerin pushed the lead to two with 10:30 remaining in the quarter. The Bees increased their lead when Shakerin found Sam Kerr for his third goal of the game with 4:00 to go in the period. After a save from Nolan Hayes and a successful clear attempt, St. Ambrose made it 7-3 when Makaile Shaddix found Michael Keating with 3:19 left in the third.

St. Ambrose continued the run into the final period with Shakerin and Christian Dimaano finding the back of the net to make it 9-3 with 8:49 to go. Concordia finally stopped the run with two goals of their own just 40 seconds apart for a 9-5 score with 6:08 remaining. The Bees closed it out from there with Keating teaming up with Shakerin for a behind-the-back goal to account for the final score. 

Kerr and Cole Danner gave SAU an early 2-0 lead, but Marcus Villagomez scored with 4 seconds left in the first quarter to make it a one-score game. Concordia would tie the game up at two with a goal from Joseph Cady with 11:59 left until halftime. Shakerin found Danner and Kerr for Bee scores to make it 4-2 with 2:09 remaining. But Concordia would cut into the lead with a goal from Joseph Loria at the halftime buzzer. 

St. Ambrose outshot Concordia 46-31 in the win. Hayes was credited with 16 saves. Dylan Witt caused four turnovers, and Joseph Henderson caused three. Hunter Northway won nine faceoffs. 

SAU will continue their run of home games on Saturday - taking on Missouri Baptist at 5 p.m. in a conference matchup.
