Bees defeated by Keiser in National Invitational quarterfinal

Making their first-ever appearance in the NAIA Men's Lacrosse Invitational, St. Ambrose faced Keiser (Fla.) Thursday afternoon in Savannah, Ga. The fifth-ranked Bees fell to the fourth-ranked Seahawks, 12-7.   

Leading 5-3 at the half, SAU couldn't hold on to their lead. The teams traded goals coming out of the break with Michael Shakerin scoring for the Bees with 10:01 left for a 6-4 St. Ambrose lead. From then on, it was all Keiser. The Seahawks, playing in their fourth National Invitational, scored five straight goals to end the third quarter and scored the first goal of the final quarter to take a 10-6 lead with 11:29 remaining in the game. Makaile Shaddix would make the game 10-7 after scoring a man-down goal off a feed from Shakerin with 8:17 left, but Keiser would add two more for the final tally. 

The Seahawks got the first goal of the game from Anthony Senior at the 12:40 mark. Sam Kerr and Matt Madril had their chances saved midway through the quarter, but Shakerin would get the breakthrough for the Bees, scoring with 6:46 left. After a faceoff win by Hunter NorthwayCole Danner would find the back of the net to put SAU up 2-1 with 6:10 remaining. Keiser had a chance hit off the post as did Kerr, and Nolan Hayes made a save at the three-minute mark to keep the lead at one. St. Ambrose would take a 3-1 lead into the second quarter as Isaiah Hahn put one past the Keiser goalie.

KU would cut into the lead on a goal from Hunter East with 11:35 on the clock. After Michael Keating had his attempt saved, Christian Dimaano found Cole Danner for a 4-2 St.Ambrose lead with 8:20 to go. The Bees would keep the two-goal lead as Hayes made a save on Weston Waerness and two other Seahawk attempts were off the mark. Shakerin had a shot saved, and Cameron Daugherty-Giampaolo hit the post with just over six minutes left in the half. Keiser cut the lead back down to one with 4:05 remaining after drawing up a play in a timeout. Hayes made a save with 23 seconds left, and then Kerr raced down the field to score a man-down goal with just 11 seconds to go for the 5-3 halftime lead. 

The Bees caused 13 turnovers with Hayden Latham causing a game-high three turnovers. Shakerin and Northway each won six faceoffs, and Hayes finished with 11 saves in the loss.

St. Ambrose ends their season at 13-4.
