Bees stay strong at St. Mary

Another consistent effort on both sides of the field gave the Bees their 10th win of the season Saturday afternoon. SAU (10-2, 7-1 KCAC) defeated St. Mary (3-7, 3-6 KCAC) 17-8 in Leavenworth, Kansas.

Michael Shakerin was the first to score to give St. Ambrose a 1-0 lead just over a minute into the game. USM would tie the game up on a goal from Tyler French, but SAU scored the next three to give the Bees a 4-1 advantage with 6:57 to go in the first period. French would strike again for the Spires to cut the deficit to two, but Cole Danner found Justin O'Marrah with 43 seconds left for a 5-2 Ambrose lead heading into the second frame.

Danner scored the first two goals in the second frame coming from assists by Makaile Shaddix and Shakerin to push the advantage to 7-2 with 6:22 left in the period. St. Mary would score two goals in the quarter to cut into the lead, but Shakerin scored with nine seconds left for an 8-4 lead at the break.

SAU scored three straight to open the third, pushing the advantage to 11-4 with 9:23 remaining in the period. French knotted another for USM, but Christian Dimaano answered with a goal. St. Mary got their second goal of the frame from Caden Louthan to cut the lead to six with 4:15 left. Shakerin and Isaiah Hahn found the back of the net to finish the scoring in the third.

Up 14-6 heading into the fourth, St. Ambrose got goals from Shakerin and Jacob Blair to push the lead to 10. O'Marrah would find the back of the net once again in between scores from the Spires as the game would finish 17-8 to the Bees.

Danner had a monster game for SAU. He finished with three goals, two assists, collected 15 ground balls, and won 19 of 22 faceoffs. Shakerin had a game-high five goals to go along with two assists. O'Marrah finished with three goals, and Dimaano added two goals and two assists. Nolan Hayes made eight saves in the win.

St. Ambrose will close out the regular season at home on April 13th against Clarke at 7 p.m.
