Defense shuts down Missouri Valley

St. Ambrose got a second-half shutout and allowed just three goals on Saturday night. SAU (9-2, 6-1 KCAC) got another conference win defeating Missouri Valley (3-7, 3-7 KCAC) 12-3 in Marshall, Mo.

The Bees would get on the board early, scoring just 16 seconds into the game as Hayden Latham found Justin O'Marrah for the goal. Michael Shakerin would give SAU a two-goal lead. The Vikings would get two goals of their own to tie up the game with 11 minutes remaining in the first quarter. Makaile Shaddix and Cole Danner would team up for the next two goals for St. Ambrose. Danner would find Shaddix for a goal with 5:23 left, and then the roles were flipped just four minutes later as Danner found the net for a 4-2 SAU lead. Shaddix would garner one more goal in the period, this time with the help of Cameron Daugherty-Giampaolo.

Shaddix would rattle off two straight goals in five seconds early in the second period to push the Bee lead to 7-2. Shakerin would get on the scoresheet again with 8:36 left on a man-up goal. Missouri Valley would get their final tally of the night from Tyler Yetka with 6:26 remaining. Isaiah Hahn found Danner for the final first-half goal to give St. Ambrose a 9-3 lead at the half.

Three goals in the first two minutes and eleven seconds of the third period would be the extent of the scoring in the second half. SAU got goals from Michael Keating, and then Danner found Shakerin and teamed up with Shaddix once again for the 12-3 final score.

Nolan Hayes made 12 saves in goal, including eight in the second half to shut out the Vikings. The St. Ambrose defense allowed just 25 shots. Latham collected seven ground balls and caused two turnovers. Gavin Flynn picked up four ground balls and caused two turnovers as well. Hunter Northway won 13 of 19 faceoffs.

SAU will take on St. Mary (Kansas) on April 11th at 4 p.m. in Leavenworth, Kansas.
