SAU dominates ranked matchup against Ottawa

St. Ambrose dominated from start to finish against No. 9 Ottawa University on Thursday night in Davenport, Iowa. The Bees - ranked fifth by the NAIA - scored eight first-quarter goals and shut out the visitors in the period en route to a 19-5 victory at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

SAU scored the game's first three goals in the first three minutes forcing an early timeout from the Braves. St. Ambrose would find the back of the net again with 5:27 left in the first quarter to push the lead to 4-0. The Bees would score three more goals in quick succession, including Michael Shakerin winning the faceoff and then racing down the field and scoring only a few seconds later. Shakerin would add a behind the back goal with :11 left to give SAU an 8-0 lead. Ottawa got a score from Brandon DeMarco with 10:30 left in the second, but Shakerin again found the back of the net, scoring twice to give the Bees a 10-1 lead. After a man-up goal from the Braves with just under four minutes left, Justin O'Marrah scored a behind-the-back goal and Sam Vita found the scoresheet to give the Bees a 12-2 lead at the half.

The offensive firepower for St. Ambrose would continue coming out of the break as the Bees would score the first four goals of the period. Scores from O'Marrah, two from Cole Danner, and one from Alex Tomaszewski upped the lead to 16-2. The Braves would get find the back of the net twice in the third quarter - one from DeMarco and the other from Robert Roseberry. Tomaszewski added a goal late in the third. The Bees would get goals in the fourth from Danner and Cameron Daugherty-Giampaolo, and Ottawa scored the final goal of the night for the 19-5 final.

Danner led the way for the Bees scoring six goals. Shakerin added four, and Tomaszewski, Michael Keating, and O'Marrah each had two. Keating also had three assists.

SAU outshot their opponent 52-40 and collected 15 more ground balls. Hunter Northway once again controlled the faceoffs, winning 17 of 25, and the Bees won 19 of 28. Nolan Hayes and Johnny Moran split time in goal, with Hayes making seven saves in the first half and Moran making six in the second.

St. Ambrose will celebrate Senior Day on April 3rd taking on (RV) Benedictine College at 4 p.m.
