SAU survives Statesmen

The St. Ambrose men's lacrosse team headed to Oskaloosa, Iowa Wednesday night to take on William Penn in a KCAC match. The Bees came away with a 7-5 victory.

SAU got on the board first with a goal from Michael Shakerin. William Penn tied it up at one until a Christian Dimaano goal gave the Bees the lead again. Justin O'Marrah scored both of his goals in the second quarter for St. Ambrose, and SAU would have a 4-2 advantage at halftime.

The Statesmen would score the first goal coming out of the break, but with 12 seconds left in the 3rd quarter, Dimaano answered with his second goal of the night. Up two goals heading into the final frame, Dimaano would find Cole Danner early in the 4th to up the lead. In between goals by the Statesmen, Hayden Latham would find the back of the net off an assist from Matt Madril as SAU would head home with a 7-5 conference victory.

St. Ambrose won 11 of 16 faceoffs with nine of those wins coming from Latham. SAU outshot the Statesmen 43-34 and collected nine more ground balls.

Nolan Hayes had 16 saves in the win.

The Bees will travel to Upland, Ind. to face Taylor University on Friday afternoon. The game is a rematch of the first game of the season in which SAU won 20-6.
