SAU takes second at CCAC Championships

Behind a strong first day, St. Ambrose finished as conference runner-up at the CCAC Championships competed Monday and Tuesday at Cinder Ridge in Wilmington, Ill.

SAU grabbed the early team lead as Dylan McAleer's 1-under 71 Monday gave him the individual lead and helped the Bees shoot a 302, two shots better than Olivet Nazarene and four shots ahead of Roosevelt. 

Those three teams would battle for the conference title over the final 36 holes, all played on Tuesday.

ONU would grab the lead with a second-round 303 and wrapped up the championship with a closing 293 to finish with a 900. SAU slid into third place with a 312 before recovering with a 305 to overtake Roosevelt for second with a 919. The Lakers (306-307-308) finished third in the nine-team tournament with a 921.

Jacob Stoetzel earned all-tournament honors by tying for third individually. After a 79 Monday, he carded back-to-back 73s Tuesday for a 9-over 225.

McAleer ended in a tie for fifth. He followed his 71 with rounds of 79 and 76 for a 226.

Tim Marcum gave St. Ambrose three players inside the top 10. He finished ninth with a 228 (74-80-74). Owen Hultman shot a 241 (79-80-82) and Carsen Theis fired a 243 (78-83-82) for the Bees.

Olivet Nazarene's Jack Busch won medalist honors with a 1-under 215 (75-70-70).
