Marcum, St. Ambrose take third at Central Fall Classic

Tim Marcum finished third with a 3-over 147 to help a second St. Ambrose team place fifth at the Central Fall Classic played at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, Monday and Tuesday. After opening with a 76, Marcum climbed the leaderboard with a 1-under 71 Tuesday.

He was one of three Bees to end inside the top 10. Teammate Jacob Lange fired rounds of 74-79 for his 153 while Dylan McAleer carded a 78-75 for his 153. 

McAleer led a bunched group of Bees on the top SAU team. Owen Hultman (77-77), Jacob Stoetzel (79-75) and Carsen Theis (74-80) each shot a 154 to tie for 14th. Jacob Rude shot a 79-83 for a 162. 

St. Ambrose was in fourth place after Monday's 308, but the team was able to leap past Augustana for third with a final-round 307. Aurora won the team title with a 588 (297-291) while Central was second (307-302=609) and SAU placed third (615).

The second Bee team was fifth in the 17-team tournament with a 623 (313-310). Behind Marcum and Lange, Colin Riggs shot a 160 (81-79), Hunter Mettille fired a 164 (82-82) and Mark Schomer ended with a 173 (92-81).

Aurora's Scot Boyajian won medalist honors with a 2-under 142. He carded back-to-back 71s. 

The Bees will close the fall portion of their schedule at the Holy Cross Saints Classic at Warren Golf Club in South Bend, Ind., next Monday and Tuesday.
