SAU finishes ninth at NAIA Midwest Invitational
Competing against several of the top teams in the Midwest, St. Ambrose finished ninth at the two-day NAIA Midwest Invitational played at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., Monday and Tuesday.
Jacob Stoetzel was the top Bee finisher, ending in a tie for 24th. He shot back-to-back 76s for a 152. Owen Hultman was three shots behind his teammate, firing rounds of 78 and 77 for a 155.
Dylan McAleer (77-80) finished with a 157, Jacob Rude (78-81) shot a 159 and Carsen Theis (82-78) finished with a 160 for St. Ambrose.
The team collected rounds of 309 and 311 for a 620 to finish ninth in the 15-team event.
A second SAU team took 10th place with a 622 after shooting 308-314.
Vinny Messana (78-76) and Colin Riggs (75-79) each came in with a 154. Tim Marcum shot a 78-77 for a 155 and Hunter Mettille carded a 78-79 for his 157. Jacob Lange (79-79) and Mark Schomer (77-81) each shot a 158.
Marian won a sudden death team playoff to win the tournament. Marian (294-295) and Midland (305-284) both shot 589s. Roosevelt was third with a 593. Roosevelt's Thomas Peluchon was the individual medalist. He was the lone player to shoot under par, finishing at 9-under with a 133 (68-65).
The Bees will face Augustana in a JV dual at Highland Springs in Rock Island, Ill., Wednesday, before the team will compete in the Central Fall Invitational at Finkbine in Iowa City, Iowa, next Monday and Tuesday.
