Hultman and Griebel earn top CCAC awards

CCAC men's golf awards

Owen Hultman was named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Year and Jeff Griebel was tabbed as the league's Coach of the Year as the conference announced its postseason men's golf awards. Jared Tigges and Dylan McAleer earned second team all-conference recognition.

Hultman is the first Bee to earn men's golf player of the year honors since Dusty Drenth earned his second of back-to-back Midwest Collegiate Conference (MCC) Player of the Year award in 2010.

The junior from Belvidere, Ill., posted a team-leading 77.28 scoring average of 25 rounds this year. He finished inside the top 10 of six events, including three top-five finishes. His best showing was a third-place effort at the Central Fall Classic when he shot a 154 (79-75). He closed the year by finishing fifth with a 233 (74-77-82) at the CCAC Championships. Hultman, a second team all-CCAC pick in 2022, also led SAU by hitting 55 percent of greens in regulation this year.

Tigges and McAleer, finished second and third, respectively, behind Hultman in scoring average.

Tigges, a senior from Carroll, Iowa, averaged a 77.81 over 27 rounds and picked up three top-10 finishes, including a pair of top-five showings. McAleer, a sophomore from DeWitt, Iowa, averaged a 78.85 over his 27 rounds. The 2022 CCAC Freshman of the Year had a team-best four top-five finishes and was the only Bee to claim medalist honors this year when he won the Highland Classic with a 6-under 138 (69-69).

This marked the first time three St. Ambrose golfers were named to the all-conference team since 

Griebel earned his 16th conference coach of the year award. He was also named the CCAC Coach of the Year in 2016. Griebel was named the MCC Coach of the Year 14 times.
