McAleer, Marcum and Rude in top five at Viking Invitational

Dylan McAleer, Tim Marcum and Jacob Rude all finished inside the top five at the Augustana Viking Invitational played at Highland Springs in Rock Island, Ill., Friday and Saturday.

McAleer posted the low round of the tournament, a 3-under 69 Friday, to hold the first-round lead. He slipped Saturday with a 78 to finish with a 147 and a tie for second. Wartburg's Nick Lechtenberg was the individual medalist with a 143 (71-72).

Marcum fired consecutive 74s to finish with a 148 to take fourth place. And Rude was just a shot back, shooting rounds of 74 and 75 for a 149 and fifth place.

Jared Tigges was in the hunt early, carding a first-round 73. But a second-day 79 left him with a 152 and just outside the top 10. He ended in a tie for 11th. Hunter Mettille finished with a 157 (77-80).

Behind McAleer and Tigges, the Bees shot a 290 Friday to hold a four-shot lead. But a final-round 306 allowed Wartburg to win the team title. The Knights shot rounds of 294 and 300 for a 594 to take the seven-team tournament. SAU finished two shots back with a 596 (290-306).
