Three Bees in top 8 at Black Hawk Spring Invite

St. Ambrose placed three inside the top eight at the Black Hawk Spring Invite Monday and Tuesday at Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Ill. The Bees settled for second as a team, finishing just a single shot behind Highland for the team title.

Jared Tigges and Dylan McAleer tied for sixth overall to lead St. Ambrose. Tigges carded the team's best round of the tournament, shooting a second-day 72. That followed a 79, giving him a 151. McAleer also finished at 151 after rounds of 77 and 74.

Hunter Mettille also put together two rounds in the 70s. He shot a 77-76 for a 153 and eighth place.

Owen Hultman had back-to-back 81s for a 162 and Mark Schomer shot an 80-84 for a 164. Both placed inside the top 20.

Trailing by seven shots after Monday's round, the Bees made a move Tuesday. SAU's 303 was the best round of the event and left them with a 616 total (313-303). That came up just short of Highland's 615 (306-309).

A second St. Ambrose team finished sixth with a 667 (336-331).

Reid Calvert and Jacob Rude led the way. Calvert shot an 81-77 for a 158 to placed 13th and Rude was a shot back with rounds of 79 and 80 for a 159 and a 14th-place finish.

Drew Eden shot a 174 (87-87), Tim Marcum fired a 176 (89-87) and Evan Baxter ended with a 182 (93-89).

Highland's Kotaro Kawasaki was individual medalist with a 147 (73-74).

St. Ambrose will compete in the Mount Mercy Spring Shootout at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, next Tuesday and Wednesday.
