Hultman, Tigges top Bees at Upper Iowa Invite

Owen Hultman and Jared Tigges led St. Ambrose at the Upper Iowa Invite played Friday and Saturday at Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa.

Hultman opened with a 79 before finishing with an 82 for a 161 total, good for a tie for 31st place. That was one shot better than Tigges, who had rounds of 83 and 79 for a 162.

They were the only two Bees to fire a round in the 70s.

Mark Schomer carded a 167 with rounds of 83 and 83. Hunter Mettille and Dylan McAleer both bounced back after shooting first-round 88s. Mettille shot a second-day 82 for a 170 and McAleer finished with an 83 to end with a 171.

As a team, St. Ambrose finished 10th. The Bees shot 334 and 326.

Kirkwood was the only team to break 300, shooting a 295 Friday. That was followed by a 309 for a 604, two shots better than second-place Bemidji State in the 14-team event. BSU's Ben Corbid was the only player to finish under par as he earned individual medalist honors with a 1-under 143 (73-70).

SAU will continue a busy stretch in the schedule by competing in the Black Hawk Spring Invitational at Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Ill., Monday and Tuesday.
