Hultman, Mettille lead Bees at Central Fall Classic
Owen Hultman and Hunter Mettille had top-10 finishes to help St. Ambrose finish second in the two-day Central Fall Classic played at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, Monday and Tuesday.
Hultman fired the Bees' best round of the tournament, a second-day 75, following an opening-round 79 to finish tied for third with a 154. Mettille had a strong start with a 76 Monday before slipping slightly with an 80 to finish in a tie for eighth with a 156.
Dylan McAleer and Jared Tigges both fired second-round 77s. McAleer's came after an 81 and Tigges recovered following an 82 to finish in ties for 14th with a 158 and 20th with a 159, respectively. Mark Schomer carded rounds of 79 and 86 to end with a 165.
The Bees were runners-up in the 13-team event. SAU's 624 (315-309) was second only to Nebraska Wesleyan's 606 (302-304).
A second St. Ambrose team finished ninth with a 650 (322-328).
Drew Eden matched Tigges with rounds of 82 and 77 for a 159 to also tie for 20th. Tim Marcum (81-82=163), Justin Endthoff (81-84=165), Reid Calvert (81-85=166) and Jacob Rude (79-88=167) also competed for the Bees.
Nebraska Wesleyan's Connor Vandewege was the individual medalist after shooting a 2-over 146 (72-74).
St. Ambrose will close the fall portion of its schedule at the NAIA Fall Preview at Las Sendas Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz., Oct. 30-31.
