Hultman ties for fifth at Bill Johnson Invitational

Owen Hultman tied for fifth place to lead St. Ambrose at the Bill Johnson Fall Invitational hosted by Olivet Nazarene at the Elks Country Club in Saint Anne, Ill., Friday and Saturday.

Hultman fired the best two rounds of the tournament for the Bees, carding a 2-over 74 Friday before closing with a 1-over 73. He was one of four players to finish with a 3-over 147 to tie for fifth.

Jared Tigges was next for St. Ambrose, placing 20th. He had rounds of 77 and 75 for his 152. Mark Schomer was a shot back after rounds of 75 and 78 left him with a 153.

Dylan McAleer finished with a 156 (76-80) and Hunter Mettille shot a 158 (79-79) for the Bees.

St. Ambrose finished fifth in the 12 team event. The Bees' 607 (302-305) was just two shots back of fourth-place Olivet Nazarene's 605 (300-305). Illinois Wesleyan won the event with a 586 (294-292). Illinois Wesleyan's Bobby Beaubien and Parkland's Zarak Curley tied for medalist honors with even-par 144s.

SAU will host the NAIA Midwest Invitational Sept. 26-27 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
