Tigges earns all-tournament honors at Klocke Family Classic

Thanks to a fast start, Jared Tigges placed fourth at the Klocke Family Classic to earn all-tournament honors at the two-day event played at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion, Iowa.

Battling rain and gusty winds all weekend, Tigges came out and shot a 2-under 70 in a first round that started Saturday but wasn't completed until Sunday morning due to the rain. He slipped a little Sunday, firing a 78, to finish with a 4-over 148, good for fourth place.

St. Ambrose as a team struggled in Sunday's wind. Four of the five Bees posted a lower score in round one.

Owen Hultman opened with a 77 before closing with an 82 to finish 20th with a 159. Dylan McAleer carded rounds of 80 and 81 for his 161. And Hunter Mettille, who began with a 78, finished with an 86 for a 164. The only Bee who didn't see a jump Sunday was Mark Schomer, whose back-to-back rounds of 83 left him with a 166 total.

SAU sat in third place with a first-round 305, but the Bees slipped to fourth after a 324 Sunday. The 629 was one shot better than Buena Vista and Waldorf, who tied for fifth at 630. Kirkwood won the team title with a 581 (291-290).

Kirkwood's Kolby Shackelford was the individual medalist after shooting an 8-under 136 (64-72). He was one of three players to finish under par for the tournament.

St. Ambrose will next compete in the Bill Johnson Fall Invitational Sept. 16-17 at Kankakee Elks in Kankakee, Ill.
