McAleer earns top-five finish at season-opening event

Dylan McAleer shot a 4-over 75 to tie for fifth at the season-opening Duane Chanay Invitational Monday at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Ill.

McAleer was one of five Bees to finish inside the top 10 on a rainy day that featured a weather delay. Drew Eden carded a 77 to take eighth, and Owen Hultman, Hunter Mettille and Reid Calvert each came in with a 78 to tie for ninth.

It was McAleer, Hultman and Mettille who led one of four SAU teams to fourth place in the 13-team tournament. Jared Tigges and Mark Schomer each shot an 84 as the main Bee team combined for a 315, just one shot out of third place.

Eden paced a second St. Ambrose team to fifth place. Evan Baxter shot an 81, T.J. McDonnell an 83, Tyler Young an 84 and Josh Vanderploeg an 89 to help Bees to a 325.

Calvert was the lone man on the third Bee team with his 78. Tim Marcum was 16th with an 80 and Jacob Rude was a shot back with an 81 to lead St. Ambrose to a 326, good for sixth place. Justin Endthoff shot an 87 and Nathan Unes fired a 90.

Colin Riggs (82), Gabe Ferlmann (84), James Tinman (84) and Luke Siebers (86) competed for a fourth SAU squad that took ninth with a 336.

Black Hawk won its own event with a 305. Black Hawk's Luke Lofgren, one of just two players to play his round under par, was the individual medalist with a 4-under 67.

St. Ambrose returns to action Friday and Saturday at the Augustana Fall Invitational played at Highland Springs in Rock Island, Ill.
