Hultman earns all-tournament honors at CCAC Championships

Behind his best collegiate round, Owen Hultman earned all-tournament honors with his runner-up finish at the CCAC Championships played at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., Monday and Tuesday.

Battling the cold and wind, Hultman fired the best round of the tournament, a 3-under 68 over his second 18 holes of the day Monday. That came on the heels of a 76 earlier that morning. He wrapped things up with a final-day 73 for his 4-over 217 total.

Hultman finished a single shot behind individual medalist Collin Todora from Holy Cross. Todora led from the start after carding a first-round 69. He ended with a 3-over 216. The top five individuals, and ties, were named to the all-tournament team.

The reigning two-time CCAC Golfer of the Week, Eric Spurgetis overcame a second-round 81 to finish in the top 10. He also had rounds of 73 and 72 to finish with a 226, good for 10th place.

Mick Haverland and Jared Tigges earned top-20 finishes. Haverland started with a 79 before shooting back-to-back 76s for a 231 and 17th place. Tigges opened with a 76 and an 81 Monday, and came in with a 79 Tuesday for a 236. He finished 19th. Dylan McAleer shot 80-76-82 to tie for 22nd with a 238.

St. Ambrose improved each round, posting scores of 304 and 301 Monday before closing with a 300 Tuesday to finish in third place with a 905. Roosevelt won the conference championship and an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships with an 888 (294-306-288). Olivet Nazarene took second.

As a host of the NAIA Championships, which will also be played at TPC Deere Run in three weeks, St. Ambrose also received a spot in the field.
