Spurgetis earns top-10 finish at Mount Mercy Shootout

Eric Spurgetis shot a 1-over 73 to finish in a tie for seventh place at the Mount Mercy Spring Shootout played at Finkbine Golf Course in Iowa City, Iowa, Thursday.

Mick Haverland fired a 76 to finish in a tie for 16th. The other three Bees - Owen HultmanDylan McAleer and Jared Tigges - each shot 78s.

That helped St. Ambrose take fifth in the 18-team event. The Bees finished with a 305. DMACC, which had three players share medalist honors with 2-under 70s, won the team title with a 3-under 285. Kirkwood (291), Hawkeye Community College (299), Illinois Central (300) and St. Ambrose rounded out the top five.

A second SAU team took ninth place with a 320.

Reid CalvertHunter Mettille and Ethan Neumer led that group with 79s. Nathan Unes shot an 83 and Josh Vanderploeg finished with a 93.

The Bees will next host the CCAC Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., next Monday and Tuesday. Teams will play 36 holes Monday before playing 18 holes Tuesday. SAU will also serve as host of the NAIA Championships May 17-20 at Deere Run.
