Spurgetis ties for third as snow cancels second day
Eric Spurgetis shot a 2-under 69 to finish in a tie for third at the Wartburg Spring Invitational Friday at Prairie Links Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa. Snow canceled Saturday's round limiting the tournament to 18 holes.
Spurgetis was just a shot out of a three-way tie for first. Carleton's James Berger and Kirkwood's Luke Evans shared medalist honors with 3-under 68s.
Jared Tigges was the only other Bee to finish in the top 20. He carded a 3-over 74 to tie for 20th. Mick Haverland shot a 76 to tie for 32nd overall, and Owen Hultman and Dylan McAleer each came in with an 80 to tie for 58th place.
As a team, St. Ambrose finished in the middle of the pack in a crowded top half of the team race. With just 11 shots separating the top nine teams, SAU took eighth place in the 15-team event. The Bees shot a 299. Hawkeye Community College won the tournament with a 289.
St. Ambrose will compete in the Clarke Spring Invitational at Galena Golf Club in Galena, Ill., next Tuesday.
