McAleer in third, Haverland fifth at CCAC Cup

Dylan McAleer and Mick Haverland both notched top-five finishes to help the Fighting Bees finish second at the CCAC Cup on Monday and Tuesday.

Playing at the Ruffled Feathers Golf Course in Lemont, Ill., St. Ambrose finished with rounds of 307 and 301 for a 608, a mere two strokes behind tournament champion Roosevelt (606).

After firing a 79 in the first round, McAleer improved his game by nine strokes to shoot a 70 in the second round. His 149 on the tournament was good enough for third-place overall.

Haverland was not far behind with a final score of 151, shooting a 73 on the first day and 78 on the second to finish in a two-way tie for fifth.

Eric Spurgetis earned a top 10 finish, carding a 75 and 78 to finish with a 153 and landing in a five-way tie for eighth place.

St. Ambrose's final scorer Jared Tigges just missed the top 15 with a 16th-place finish. Tigges fired an 80 and a 75 to score a 155 on the two-day event. Owen Hultman carded a 164 to tie for 28th place.

Playing individually was Hunter Mettille, who shot back-to-back 79's to land in a four-way tie for 20th.

Holy Cross' Carter Silva earned individual medalist honors. He shot a tournament-best 67 in his second round to finish with a 146.

The CCAC Cup was the final meet of the fall for the men's team. They will resume play in the spring.
