Bees fall to Tigers in CCAC quarterfinals

St. Ambrose saw its season come to an end at the hands of a team that just didn't miss Wednesday night. Olivet Nazarene (22-7) shot better than 68 percent from the floor in handling SAU 104-77 in a quarterfinal of the CCAC Tournament.

The Tigers connected on 41-of-60 attempts from the floor to finish at 68.3 percent. They were 8-of-12 from beyond the arc and 14-of-15 from the line in advancing to Friday's semifinal round.

The Bees just couldn't keep up.

St. Ambrose (14-15) shot just under 43 percent, hitting 30-of-70 from the floor. The Bees were 6-of-18 from 3-point range and 11-of-17 on free throw attempts.

A Jake Friel three gave SAU a 7-4 lead in the game's first two minutes. ONU responded with a 22-6 run to go in front 26-13. And the Tigers never looked back.

Olivet Nazarene missed just nine field goal attempts (21-of-30) in the opening half in taking a 56-39 lead at the break.

SAU got as close as 11 points three times in the opening stages of the second half, the last time at 65-54 following an Ignacio Dacunda layup, but the Bees were never able to get the deficit into single digits.

Will Spriggs led St. Ambrose with 21 points. Dacunda (13) and Guillermo Narbona (12) also scored in double figures.

Atem Agot finished with eight points, Collin Wainscott scored seven, Friel had six points and Grant Mason added five. Evan Walsh scored three and Zane Witt had two in the loss.
