Five score in double figures as Bees down Trolls

All five starters scored in double figures as St. Ambrose closed the regular season with an 89-72 win at Trinity Christian Saturday afternoon.

The Bees finished tied for fifth place in the conference but will earn the sixth seed in the upcoming CCAC Tournament after losing the tiebreaker to Saint Xavier. SAU will visit Olivet Nazarene in a tournament quarterfinal Wednesday.

St. Ambrose (14-14, 11-9 CCAC) will enter the postseason after shooting better than 50 percent from the floor in defeating Trinity Christian (6-22, 1-19 CCAC).

The game was tied twice early but back-to-back 3-pointers from Grant Mason and Guillermo Narbona sparked an 8-0 run that put the Bees in front 13-5. Another Mason three put the lead at 16-6 just four minutes in and SAU never trailed from there.

The St. Ambrose advantage was 49-31 at the half and the Bees pushed the lead to 24 points six minutes into the second half in coasting to victory.

Atem Agot led the way with 23 points. Narbona scored 17, Jake Friel had 14, Ignacio Dacunda finished with 12 and Mason added 10. Each of the five starters grabbed seven rebounds, helping SAU to a 44-29 edge on the glass.

Zane Witt came off the bench to score six points, while Collin Wainscott, Elgin Bowen Jr. and Nathan Moeller each dropped in two points.

Now after a two-year absence, St. Ambrose will return to the postseason. The start time for Wednesday's game at ONU has not been announced.
