Bees pull away in second half for 80-69 win at Calumet

Elgin Bowen Jr., Jake Friel and Guillermo Narbona combined for 36 points on 13-of-16 shooting in the second half to power St. Ambrose past Calumet 80-69 Saturday in Whiting, Ind.

Bowen was 4-of-6 from the field, and hit a pair of 3-pointers, in scoring 14 second-half points. Friel was a perfect 5-of-5 in netting 12 and Narbona was 4-of-5 in dropping in 10. The three helped the Bees outscore the Crimson Wave 48-37 over the game's final 20 minutes.

Narbona and Friel combined to score the first seven points of the second half, with Narbona's three-point play giving SAU a 39-32 lead. Aiden Cilladi and Atem Agot each made a free throw to cap a 9-0 run that put St. Ambrose in front 41-32.

From there, the Bees fought off every Wave rally. Nursing a 74-69 lead, SAU got two free throws from Agot before Narbona scored four late points to end the scoring.

SAU shot 50 percent from the floor (28-of-56) and outscored CCSJ (2-8, 0-4 CCAC) 14-4 from the line to overcome 13 Calumet 3-pointers.

Friel led the way with 26 points to go along with seven assists. Narbona and Bowen each scored 14 while Agot added 10 and seven rebounds.

Ryan Kenney scored six points, Cilladi finished with three, Will Spriggs, Nikola Zelenovic and Zane Witt had two apiece and Ignacio Dacunda scored one.

St. Ambrose (6-4, 3-1 CCAC) will host Judson next Saturday.
