Dacunda's two free throws lift Bees to double-OT win

Ignacio Dacunda knocked down two free throws with one second left to lift St. Ambrose to a 70-68 double-overtime win over St. Francis (Ill.) Wednesday afternoon in Lee Lohman Arena.

Inside the final 10 seconds, with the game tied at 68-68, USF's Don Joachim misfired on a jumper. Dacunda snared the rebound and raced the other way, drawing a foul with just one second left. He calmly hit both from the line. The Saints final inbound pass was knocked away at the buzzer.

Dacunda helped get the game into the second overtime, hitting two free throws with 35 seconds left to tie the score at 60-60 late in the first overtime. St. Francis (0-1, 0-1 CCAC) missed inside giving St. Ambrose a shot at the win, but Elgin Bowen Jr.'s 3-pointer from the corner was off the mark.

Neither team led by more than two in the second extra session. SAU had a short-lived 64-62 lead on a Will Spriggs jumper before USF scored four in a row. Another Spriggs jump shot knotted the game at 66-66. Zane Witt scored inside to put the Bees back in front with 2:15 to play. The Saints tied the game on two free throws with a minute left to set up Dacunda's game-winning free throws.

Dacunda also had the ball in his hands at the end of regulation but his shot was off the mark at the buzzer.

The contest featured 14 ties and nine lead changes. USF's largest lead of six points came at 11-5 in the opening four minutes while SAU's biggest lead was at 37-30 in the opening stages of the second half.

Neither team shot better than 38 percent from the floor. The Bees finished right at 38 percent (27-of-71) while the Saints shot at a 35.6-percent clip (26-of-73). The teams also had similar 3-point percentages (SAU 5-of-21, USF 6-of-26) and St. Ambrose held a slim 11-10 edge in free throws. Rebounding (48-45 USF), assists (11-10 USF) and turnover (18-18) numbers were also all nearly identical.

Jake Friel led St. Ambrose with 13 points. Dacunda scored 11 and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds. The Bees got some big performances from the bench. Spriggs scored eight to go along with three assists and three steals. Aiden Cilladi dropped in eight points and Ryan Kenney gave the team some big minutes with eight points.

Atem Agot finished with seven points and eight boards. Bowen scored five, Guillermo Narbona and Witt each netted four, and Ty Slager scored two.
