Shooting struggles hurt SAU in loss at Missouri Baptist

On a night when they couldn't get much to fall, St. Ambrose shot itself out of Thursday's game at Missouri Baptist early. The Bees made just four of their first 23 shots from the floor in an eventual 84-55 loss in St. Louis, Mo.

SAU only got baskets from Ignacio Dacunda, Aiden Cilladi, Nathan Moeller and Atem Agot over the game's first 14 minutes in falling behind 30-10.

The Bees finished the first half 7-of-34 from the floor (.206) and 0-of-12 from beyond the arc in facing a 44-18 halftime deficit.

SAU upped its shooting in the second half, converting at a 41.4-percent clip, but never threatened Missouri Baptist (4-2).

While the Bees finished 19-of-63 from the floor, a 30.2 percent effort, the Spartans connected on 33-of-70 attempts, a shade over 47 percent. MBU also knocked down 12 threes compared to SAU's 3-of-19 performance.

Dacunda led St. Ambrose with 16 points. Agot came off the bench to net 11. Guillermo Narbona scored eight, Jake Friel had six and Moeller finished with five. Ryan Kenney, Ty Slager, Cilladi, Zane Witt and Jayven Jones also scored in the loss.

Agot grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double. Dacunda pulled down seven boards. Friel was credited with a team-high six assists.

St. Ambrose (3-2) will make its home debut Saturday in the CCAC opener against Holy Cross. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
