Fighting Bees fall to Saints 73-61

A 16-4 run early in the second quarter propelled St. Francis to a 73-61 win over St. Ambrose Wednesday night in Joliet, Ill.

Max Steiner knocked down a 3-pointer to open the second-half scoring and tie the score at 34-34. But St. Francis (15-10, 13-6 CCAC) scored the next six points to begin its run. The Bees managed just a Kieran Farrell 3-pointer and a Will Spriggs free throw as the Saints built a 50-38 advantage six minutes into the second half.

Steiner hit another three and Farrell connected on a free throw to end the run and close the gap to 50-42. But that proved to be as close as SAU would get the rest of the way.

St. Ambrose (4-20, 3-16 CCAC) shot just 20-of-51 (.392) from the floor and 6-of-21 (.286) from beyond the arc. The Bees also committed 17 turnovers.

Andrew Morrissey led SAU with 15 points and nine rebounds. Jake Friel and Ignacio Dacunda each scored 11 points. Friel added seven boards and six assists. Spriggs scored seven and Steiner and Farrell each netted six. Tyson White and Grant Mason combined for five points.

The Bees will close the season Saturday by hosting Indiana South Bend on Senior Day.
