St. Ambrose falls at Calumet St. Joseph

St. Ambrose endured another rough night from the floor in falling at Calumet St. Joseph 79-63 Saturday afternoon. The Bees shot just 35 percent from the floor, including a 31.3-percent mark in the second half, in falling to 3-15 overall and 2-12 in the CCAC.

The struggles came after a good start. Behind 3-pointers from Nathan Moeller, Jake Friel and Kieran Farrell, and thanks to a 10-0 run capped by an Ignacio Dacunda three-point play, SAU led 18-10 eight minutes into the contest. Still leading by eight at 20-12 on a Jayven Jones jumper, the Bees coughed up seven straight points to allow the Crimson Wave to climb back into the game.

After an Andrew Morrissey three-point play pushed St. Ambrose in front 27-23 with six minutes left in the half, Calumet (5-12, 5-10 CCAC) scored 10 in a row to grab a lead it would not relinquish.

The Bees trailed just 38-33 at the half but their second-half shooting woes prevented any comeback.

Morrissey came off the bench to lead all players with 21 points. Dacunda added 14 in his eight minutes off the bench.

Friel and Grant Mason each scored seven points while Farrell and Moeller scored five apiece. Jones and Austin Born each dropped in two points.

The Bees will next host Saint Xavier Wednesday night.
