Tigers too much for Bees in Bourbonnais

The Fighting Bees knew they had a tall task ahead of them when they traveled to Bourbonnais, Ill. to take on the (RV) Olivet Nazarene Tigers.

Tom Kazanecki put forth a valiant effort to keep the Bees in the game, scoring a game-high 30 points and bringing down 13 rebounds, but it wasn't enough to get past Olivet Nazarene (15-3, 9-1 CCAC) in a 89-66 finish.

The Bees hung tough for the first 10 minutes of play, tying the game at 19-all off of a Nolan Griffin three-pointer midway through the first half. This would be the closest the Bees would get, however, with the Tigers opening up a 9-0 run and holding the Bees scoreless for the final five minutes of the first.

St. Ambrose got a rally started when they came out of the locker room, with Jake Friel draining a three followed by layups from Will Spriggs and Patrick Torrey to mark seven of the first nine points of the second half.

This was the last sign of life for St. Ambrose in the bout in Bourbonnais, with Olivet Nazarene opening up a 10-0 run followed by a 9-0 run to cap off a frustrating night for the Fighting Bees.

Kazanecki led all scorers with 30 points, going 3-of-3 from deep and playing a game-high 36 minutes. Friel was the only other Bee in double-figures with 14. Spriggs chipped in nine points to go with four rebounds and three assists.

The loss marks the end of the Fighting Bees' three-game road trip and moves the team to 6-11 overall and 5-7 in the CCAC. The Bees will return to Lee Lohman Arena on Saturday to take on Roosevelt in a conference tilt at 3 p.m.
