Hot-shooting Bees take down Lynx for second-straight road win

The St. Ambrose Fighting Bees shot a scorching 60 percent from beyond the arc to take down the Lincoln Lynx in a CCAC matchup in Lincoln, Ill.

Will Spriggs went a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range and Ben Schols was 3-of-4 from deep to lead the Bees three-point barrage, while Tom Kazanecki dominated inside with a game-high 22 points.

The Bees got out to a quick start, taking a commanding 13-point lead into halftime thanks to a big 14-point first-half performance from Kazanecki.

St. Ambrose pushed their lead to 16 in the second half until Lincoln (6-12, 5-6 CCAC) found life, rattling off a 12-0 run to cut the lead to four. Schols buried a three and then connected on a jumper on the next possession to get the Bees back in rhythm. The teams virtually went shot-for-shot for the next ten minutes, with the lead hovering around five points for the Bees.

With three minutes to play, Davion Williams knocked down a deep three-pointer to extend the lead to eight. The Lynx refused to back down, however, knocking down back-to-back threes to cut the lead to two.

Both teams went quiet until Kazanecki placed the finishing touches with a dunk and a layup to put the game out of reach and secure the Bees' second-consecutive road victory.

Despite the close finish, the Bees held the lead from the 17:07 mark in the first half. In addition to the stellar three-point shooting, St. Ambrose also dominated inside, outscoring Lincoln 32-16 in the paint.

Spriggs and Schols joined Kazanecki as the only Bees in double-figures, with Spriggs scoring 14 and Schols adding 13. Williams, Jake Friel, and Nolan Griffin contributed deep-range attack with a three-pointer each.

With the win, the Bees improve to 6-10 overall and 5-6 in CCAC play. St. Ambrose will look to clean sweep their three-game road stint in Bourbonnais against (RV) Olivet Nazarene.
