SAU falls to GSU despite four Bees in double-figures

Despite four Bees scoring double-digit points, St. Ambrose walks away empty-handed against the Governors State Jaguars to a final score of 93-84.

Tom Kazanecki scored a game-high 24 points, Grant Mason came off the bench to drop in 16, Ben Schols shot 4-of-7 from behind the arc to add 14 and Jake Friel finished with a 10-5-5 stat line, but it wasn't enough to get past the hot-shooting Jaguars.

Governors State (6-9, 3-5 CCAC) shot at a near-50% clip from deep, going 18-of-38 from behind the line to hang a total of 93 points, the most the Bees have given up in a game this season.

St. Ambrose battled back from an early 11-point deficit in the first half, only trailing by five heading into the break. The Bees came out of the locker room firing, erasing the deficit and tying the game at 44 less than a minute into the second half.

This would be the closest the Bees would get, however, as the Jaguars would open up a 12-3 run and lead by as many as 13 at the midway point in the second half. The Bees were able to cut the lead to two with five minutes remaining after a Schols three and a Kazanecki turn-around jumper, but a layup followed by a clutch three-pointer from GSU thwarted the potential comeback.

Jake Conerty contributed seven points and five rebounds and Drake Gunn added eight points. Kazanecki brought down a game-high 12 rebounds to tally his fifth double-double of the season.

The Bees now move to 4-9 overall and 3-5 in CCAC play. They will get another shot at a conference foe on Tuesday when they host Trinity International.
