St. Ambrose falls at Mount Mercy 82-69

Mount Mercy knocked down 11 3-pointers to defeat St. Ambrose 82-69 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Monday night. The Mustangs were 11-of-26 from beyond the arc while the Bees managed to hit just three of their 21 attempts from 3-point range.

Despite the difference from deep, it was just a six-point game inside the final five minutes after a 6-0 run of Grant MasonBen Schols and Will Spriggs baskets trimmed the deficit to 66-60. MMU answered with five straight points before Spriggs knocked down a triple to cut the margin to 71-63 with three minutes remaining.

But that would be it for the Bees. The Mustangs would hit two free throws on their next possession, and after a St. Ambrose miss, Mount Mercy would hit its 11th three of the night to extend the lead to 76-63. SAU would get no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.

Tom Kazanecki led St. Ambrose with 26 points on 12-of-19 shooting. He also grabbed eight rebounds.

Spriggs finished with 13 points. Jake Conerty came off the bench to add nine points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Despite Kazanecki and Conerty's efforts, the Bees were outrebounded 39-29.

Schols scored seven points, Jake Friel had six and Nathan Moeller dropped in four.

The Bees, now 4-6 overall, will return to conference play with a game at Roosevelt Thursday night.
