Cold-shooting Bees fall to Lynx

Cold-shooting Bees fall to Lynx

On a night they struggled to get much of anything to fall, St. Ambrose fell to Lincoln College 78-54 Wednesday.

The Bees shot at less than a 30-percent clip, hitting just 20-of-67 from the field for the game. It didn't give them much of a chance against a Lynx team that pulled away by shooting better than 54 percent in the second half.

Despite the shooting struggles, SAU was able to stay close in the first half, in large part due to a 31-21 rebounding advantage. Ten of those rebounds came on the offensive end helping the Bees stay within 38-29 at the half.

A second-half turnaround never happened.

The Bees misfired on their first nine field-goal attempts of the second half, many of them coming in the paint. The only St. Ambrose point in the first nearly-six minutes of the half came on a Ben Schols free throw. By the time Jake Friel knocked down a jumper at the 14:11 mark, the deficit was 53-32.

SAU got within 17 at 56-39 on a Nolan Griffin free throw midway through the half, but Lincoln responded with a 10-0 run to squash any comeback hopes.

Griffin led the Bees with 13 points. Tom Kazanecki was the only other Bee to reach double figures as he scored 10. Kazanecki and Schols each grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.

Patrick Torrey came off the bench to contribute seven points and seven boards. No one else scored more than four points.

Will Spriggs picked up three of the team's eight assists.

St. Ambrose, now 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the CCAC, will visit Trinity International Saturday. It will be the first of four straight road games for the Bees.
