SAU Dance Team wins Northeast Regional

The SAU Dance Team won its fourth straight regional qualifier Friday, and this time they did it as the host school.

Serving as the host of a regional for the first time, St. Ambrose continued its dominance, claiming first-place honors in the NAIA's Northeast Region for the fifth time in the last six years. The championship marks SAU's ninth overall regional crown in the last 11 years.

St. Ambrose posted the best two rounds of Friday's seven-team event in Lee Lohman Arena.

SAU earned a score of 92.63 in the prelims before upping that mark to a 93.57 in the final round. SAU's overall score of 93.34 easily outdistanced second-place Aquinas (Mich.), who took second with an overall score of 84.05. Siena Heights was third with a score of 80.07. St. Francis (67.22), Calumet St. Joseph (62.79), Concordia (58.82) and Saint Xavier (51.92) rounded out the field.

The regional win gives St. Ambrose an automatic bid to the 2021 NAIA Dance National Championships. SAU will host that event Mar. 12-13.
