Fetterer and Owten named NAIA co-Cheerleaders of the Year

Senior Carlos Fetterer and sophomore Taye Owten were named NAIA Co-Cheerleaders of the Year. They each posted a perfect score of 20 to share the award. A total of four cheerleaders earned perfect 20s.

The two were also named NAIA First Team All-Americans. It marked the second straight year Owten has been named to the team.

The All-America teams are determined by the national championship judges. Competitors are graded on a scale where a score of 16.0 or better earns First Team honors, a score between 14.5-15.99 earns Second Team honors, and a score between 12.0-14.49 earns Third Team recognition. Student-Athletes are recorded doing four elements: toe tuck, trimple jump combination, round off back handspring full twisting layout, and stunts. They are graded on a scale of 1-5 ranging from poor form and technique to superior form and technique. 

Fetterer, from Davenport, Iowa, and Owten, from Chicago, Ill., were two of 10 Bees named to the All-America Team. The pair helped St. Ambrose win the NAIA National Championship with an overall score of 97.27, setting a record for highest score in the eight-year history of the event. SAU was won back-to-back NAIA National Championships.
