St. Ambrose wins two of three Thresher Invitational rounds

Facing several of the top programs in the country, the St. Ambrose Cheer Team was able to secure first place in two of the three rounds of the Thresher Invitational Saturday and Sunday.

SAU's best performance came in Friday's first round. St. Ambrose earned a score of 97.73 to share first with Xavier. Dickinson State was third with a 93.98 and Saint Mary was fourth with a 92.73.

Saturday, the Bees' score of 90.18 was the top in the field. Indiana Wesleyan was second with a score of 86.63 and Northwestern took third with an 83.58.

St. Ambrose's streak of first-place finishes came to an end in the final round Sunday. Xavier earned the top spot with the top score of the weekend, a 97.80. Oklahoma City was second at 97.03 and St. Ambrose finished third with a 96.68. Dickinson State (94.73) and Saint Mary (90.70) rounded out a competitive top five.

A Grand Champion was named based on teams' top scores of the event. Xavier earned the award with its 97.80.

SAU will compete in the Saints Showdown in Grand Rapids, Mich., next Sunday.
