SAU crowned Grand Champion at Thresher Invitational

The SAU Cheer Team was crowned the Grand Champion and won all three rounds at the Bethel Thresher Invitational in North Newton, Kan., Friday and Saturday.

St. Ambrose posted the three highest scores of the weekend and collected three of the five overall scores in the 90s.

SAU's best score came in Round 1 Friday. St. Ambrose earned a 96.30 to easily win the nine-team event. Saint Mary took second with an 84.83.

The Bees swept both competitions Saturday to earn Grand Champion recognition. In the 13-team event to start the day, SAU's score of 94.61 easily outdistanced second-place Oklahoma City (85.71). The third round was the most competitive. St. Ambrose had the top score of a 92.70 among the nine teams. Midland was runner-up with a 91.38 and Oklahoma City placed third with a 90.56.

Competing for St. Ambrose were Kathryn Anderson, CJ Busch, Eliza Dzurisin, McKensie Fortner, Austyn Goodale, Sydnee Horstman, Priscilla Jackson, Jesse Lopez, Antwyon Lowery, Sawyer Mackovitch, Alyssa Oczko, Taye Owten, Catie Pett, Lainy Pierce, Ryan Russo, Savannah Schumacher, Will Smith and Kaiyla Stuckel.

The Bees will next compete in the Baker Invitational Feb. 10-11.
