St. Ambrose officially started its NAIA competition season by winning a pair of events hosted by Grand View Sunday. Both the SAU Cheer and Dance Teams won the Viking Classic and the Grand View Invitational.

The SAU Dance Team posted a score of 92.77 to win the Viking Classic then came back with a score of 93.90 to take the Grand View Invitational title. Grand View, Mount Mercy and Peru State also competed in both events.

Competing for St. Ambrose were Maddy Barnes, Lexi Crook, Sydnie Gerner-Offermann, Karlee Grenier, Sara Gundacker, Kylee Harper, Ally Olson, Morgan Pfohl, Ellie Schilling, Emma Schoonover, Lynleigh Schram, Grace Sheldon and Leah Zeimet.

The SAU Cheer Team also won both events. The team received a score of 92.40 to win the Viking Classic and earned a score of 94.13 to win the GVU Invitational. Grand View, Waldorf and Mount Mercy also competed in the cheer events.

Participating for SAU were Kathryn Anderson, CJ Busch, Eliza Dzurisin, McKensie Fortner, Austyn Goodale, Sydnee Horstman, Priscilla Jackson, Madi Krause, Jesse Lopez, Antwyon Lowery, Sawyer Mackovitch, Alyssa Oczko, Taye Owten, Catie Pett, Lainy Pierce, Ryan Russo, Savannah Schumacher, Will Smith and Kaiyla Stuckel.

The SAU Cheer and Dance Teams will next compete at the Bethel Thresher Invitational in North Newton, Kan., Feb. 3-4.
